Home of the Blizzard

In the summer of 1997-98 we were part of a 13 member conservation team which arrived at Commonwealth Bay Antarctica to commence the first stage of the preservation work on Sir Douglas Mawson's huts. The work to be completed included emergency internal structural repairs and cladding of the workshop roof to save Mawson’s Huts from collapsing and being swept away into the Southern Ocean. In addition artifacts on site were photographed and recorded for future generations. The film "Home of the Blizzard" was made during this expedition.

In this modern day adventure we see the restoration team working to preserve the huts in treacherous winds, freezing temperatures and 24-hour daylight, which pushes their human endurance to the limit.
